IVAR: evaluating within UK trusts and foundations

The Institute for Voluntary Action Research (IVAR) is an independent, charitable research institute, with a key focus on using action research to understand and strengthen voluntary and community sector organisation and management

Following the inaugural March 2014 UK Evaluation Roundtable, attended by key leaders in the Third Sector, IVAR carried out a survey to address the identified knowledge gap of evaluation within larger trusts and foundations in the UK. The survey was completed by 34 trusts and foundations and the findings were used to put together the first ever report showing the picture of evaluation within these types of organisations. To ensure the report would be visually appealing, IVAR asked us to support the development.

With a lot of data from various organisations, showing evaluation activities and perceptions within the sector, as well as the challenges trusts and foundations are facing, we needed to create something that would be digestable and visually appealing. The result was a report with a clean design and engaging infographics, allowing the reader to view the information in an easy way and engage with stats and content. The success of the report has meant that the team at IVAR has been able to present and explain complex data confidently at their roundtable events, and the report has proved to be a really useful resource for the sector.
